"By his father's will in 1691, Thomas received the 16th great lot in the Pocasset Purchase and four acres of salt meadow at Sapowet. Ownership of the great lots carried with it right In subsequent divisions, and on 6 December 1696 Thomas Cook of Portsmouth, cordwainer, sold to Daniel Lake of Tiverton, for £45, six score and five acres in the second division of the Pocasset Purchase, it being the 22nd lot in number, above the Pond and running to the Dartmouth line. Mary Cook signed her mark. This deed was witnessed by John Coggeshall Sr. and John Coggeshall Jr., but was not recorded until 19 January 1743/4 (Court Files, Suffolk, 58145).

Thomas Cook had settled at Tiverton by 1698 when he registered the earmark of his cattle there. His homestead was apparently on the 16th great lot. On 31 August 1703 he sold to Edward Gray of Tiverton for £17, 10s a salt meadow, it being two shares and a half of the 5th lot lying in Punkatest and Sapowet Meadows, so-called, in Tiverton, received by inheritance (Bristol Co. Deeds 4:220).

Early Tiverton Town Council records show that Thomas Cook was chosen constable on 22 March 1700, again In 1704 and 1710/11. On 23 March 1704/5 he was chosen sealer of leather, an office he held by yearly appointment for at least ten years. At the annual meeting in March 1709/10 he was called Thomas Cook, Sr., indicating that Thomas Cook [28), son of Capt. John Cook, was now also active in town affairs (Tiverton Large Book: Town Meetings, Births & Marriages, etc. 1697 to 1732, transcribed by Grace Stafford Durfee).

Thomas Cooke of Tiverton, cordwainer, weak in body, signed his name to his will 25 April 1725. He named his wife Mary, his sons Stephe, Joseph and Chaplin, the youngest, and daughters Deborah, Mary and Amy Cook."
