Germany on the third day of January, 1856. In early infancy she was taken to Jesus and accepted by Him as an heir of eternal life through the sacrament of baptism. Later on she was instructed in the Christian religion as it is taught in the Lutheran Church and then renewed her baptismal vows through the act of confirmation. She came to the United States at the age of 19 and lived at Holstein, Iowa, In 1875 she was united In holy wedlock with Juergen Nissen. This union was blessed with eleven children, three preceded the mother in death. Her husband departed this life live years ago, September 20, 1929. Mr. and Mrs. J. Nissen had made their home at several places in Iowa. The greater part of their stay in Iowa however was at Storm Lake. In 1895 they went to Minnesota, first to Pipestone and then in 1900 to Appleton. In the year 1903 they came to Anamoose, N. Dakota Since the death of her husband Mrs. Nissen has remained in her old home, her grandson, Theodor Nissen, living with her and caring for her. By the grace of God Mrs. Nissen reached the age of 78 years, 5 months and 2 days. Although her life was filled with many cares and hardships, yet have always found her content and cheerful. She was loved and esteemed by all who knew her. After a lingering illness she died Tuesday morning, June 5, 1934. There remain to mourn her loss: eight children, forty grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. The children are the following: Mrs. Fred Burmeister, Storm Lake, Iowa; Mrs Henry Tobeck, Clayton, Wash.; Nis Nissen, Orrin, N. Dakota., Herman Nissen, Larimore, N. Dakota.; William Nissen, Drake, .N. Dakota.; Mrs. Geo. Bromley, Drake. N. Dakota.; Mrs. Ben. Krueger, Drake, N. Dakota., and Mrs. John Hyatt, Balta, N. Dakota.Funeral services were conducted at the home and in St. John's Lutheran Church of Funston June 8, 1934. Interment was made in Zion's Cemetery of Norfolk.
Patiently she suffered, her troubles she bore,But now it is ended, she suffers no more.To sleep we shall leave her, in peace and in rest;The parting Was painful, but the Lord knows best.
We wish to take this means of expressing our hearty thanks to all who helped us during the death of our dear beloved mother and for all the beautiful flowers.The Nissen Family."
