J. (probably in what is now Laurel Township). He became a justice and a commissioner in Monmouth County in 1670; assemblyman from this county in 1692, 1694, 1695, and 1698; road commissioner, 1693-17H; agent for the receipt of Monmouth county taxes, 1705-1706. He married (l) ABIGAIL GROVER (b. 1654/5 - d. Jan. 8, 1728), daughter of JAMES and REBECCA GROVER; (2) Susannah who survived him, and was qualified as administrix of his estate on June 6, 1728. Susannah was probably the daughter of John Page whose estate was settled, June 19, 1730. Payments were made to Susannah Borden (the first name on the list) and others.

ABIGAIL GROVER, daughter of James Grover, 1, died Jan. 8, 1720, aged 66 years; married, Sept. 22, 1670, Benjamin, son of Richard and Joan (Fowler) Borden, born May 16, 1649; died after 1718.
In 1670, he was of Shrewsbury; was a Justice and a Commissioner, in Monmouth County.
1690, May 3. Benjamin Borden, of Middletown, yeoman, and Abigail, his wife, sold to William Winter, of the same place, cordwainer, lands, left to the said Abigail, by her father, James Grover, in his will dated Dec. 1, 1685.
In 1716, he was of Eversham, Burlington County, when he deeded land to his son, Joseph, of Freehold.
1718. He was of Auchweas, Burlington County, when he deeded his son, James, land.
Issue
Richard Borden, born Jan. 9, 1672; died July 9, 1744; is said to have married, Apr. 7, 1695, Mary Worthley, but I am extremely doubtful of it.
Benjamin Borden, born Apr. 6, 1675; [died 1728; married Susannah; lived in Middletown, N. J.(ERROR: This information is incorrect. After Abigail died, her husband Benjamin who died in 1728 married Susannah.)]
James Borden, born Sept. 6, 1677; died December, 1727; married Mary; lived in Freehold, N. J.
Rebecca Borden, born June 8, 1680.
Safety Borden, born Sept. 6, 1682; died, November, 1757, in Bordentown, N. J.; married Martha He is supposed to have married his first cousin, a daughter of Capt. Safety Grover, whose name is unknown. She may have been this Martha, or perhaps be married twice.
