"He, was a captain in the U. S. Army during the Spanish American War, and served for seven years in the Phillipines. Back in this country he held a number of engineering positions in the Federal Government, and in 1922 was State Highway Engineer of Texas. He was District Engineer in charge of Federal Ald work in the Bureau of Public Roads for the States of Arkansas,, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana, and finally for Virginia.

He was interested in family history, and took some of the pictures of old family homes which are in this book. He was also active in having some of the old family cemeteries restored."
