"He belonged to the Confederate Army and fought faithfully throughout the war, and when Johnson surrendered his command was comprised in the escort of President Davis. He was wounded at Fort Donelson and sent to Nashville just before the surrender of the former. At Dug Gap he had his gun cut in two by a ball just in front of his hand when in the act of firing."
