William Starling Woods

Information given to T.Mason on 11 Mar 2007 by Jerry Woods.

OBITUARY: William Starling Woods was born in Missouri June 18th, 1875 and departed this life - Jan. 24, 1931, age 55 years, 7 months and 6 days.  He was married to Miss Melissa Shipley Jan. 12th, 1896.  To this union were born seven children, Mrs. Clarence Harber, Herington, Kans., Mrs. Anna Foster, Mrs. Lester Terry, Wynnewood, Arthur Woods, Brady, Mrs. Jim Harmon, Pauls Valley, Mrs. Ralph Roady, Gainesville, Texas, Herbert Woods, Harlingen, Texas, all of whom were present at the funeral.  With these children he leaves a devoted companion to mourn his loss.  He also leaves three brothers and a host of relatives.  Only one brother, Andrew Woods of Chandler, Okla., could be present at the funeral.
Mr. Woods suffered a serious sickness ten years ago and had never been well a day since, but he bore his afflictions with courage and un-complaining.  Always had a simle and a word of encouragement for his friends when he met them.  In his home he was an inspiration, a loving, kind husband and all that a father should be.  He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and will be sadly missed by his little church here.  For thirty years he has been so faithful and ever ready to give a reason for his hope of eternal life.
The funeral was held at the Christian church Saturday at 4 P.M.  Rev. Womack of Sulphur conducted the service.  His body was laid to rest in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Many friends joined in expression of sympathy with kind deeds and beautiful floral offerings, but only God in his own time can temper such sorrow as theirs.  May His richest blessing be with each member.
