Abigail Soules was the 2nd cousin of John.

Chenango County Surrogates Court: To Hon. Smith M. Purdy County Judge and acting Surrogate of the County of Chenango:
The Petition of Abigail Soules of the town of Greene in the County of Chenango and State of New York, respectfully showeth, that your Petitioner is Sole Executrix named in the last Will and testament of John Soules late of the town of Greene in the County of Chenango and State of New York, deceased.
That said deceased was at or immediately previous to his death, an inhabitant of said County of Chenango and departed this life in said town of Greene on the twenty second day of November 1850: and that his said last Will and testament relates to both real and personal estate.
Your Petitioner further shows that the heirs and next of kin of the said John Soules deceased, are your Petitioner, his widow residing in Greene, Chenango County N.Y.
Hannah Burr, his sister, the wife of Erastus Burr, residing in Butternuts, Otsego County, N.Y.
Lyman W. Bassett, his nephew residing in South New Berlin, Chenango County N.Y.
Arvine A. Bassett, his nephew, residing in Patterson, Passaic County New Jersey.
John Bassett, his nephew of Morris, Otsego County N.Y.
Sally M. Lewis, his niece, the wife of George W. Lewis, residing at Amboy Oswego County N.Y.
Emeline Davis, his niece, the wife of Anthony J. Davis, residing at Masonville Delaware County N.Y.
Hannah Hale, his niece, the wife of Alonzo Hale, residing at Summit in Wisconsin.
Cornelia E. Hopkins, his niece, the wife of Almon Hopkins, residing at Buttrnuts, Otsego Co., N.Y.
The deceased left no child or children him surviving.
Your petitioner therefore prays that said last Will and testament may be proved and letters testamentary granted thereon and that such further or other proceedings in the premises may be had as shall be according to law.

On this 17th day of May 1851 before me personally appeared Abigail Soules the petitioner named in the foregoin [sic] petition & who has subscribed the same & who being by me duly sworn did depose & say that she had heard said petition read and knew the contents thereof and that the same was true of her own knowledge.
