Lucille Evelyn Carpenter

OBITUARY: El Paso Natural Gas Company / MOI "Rusty Pipeliners' News" August 2005
Lucille Carpenter Butchofsky, born July 24, 1920, life-long resident of El Paso and member of two pioneer El Paso families, died on July 14, 2005. She was the daughter of Juliet Blanchard Carpenter and Samuel Shanks Carpenter, who preceded her in death, as did her beloved husband, Richard David Butchofsky, and her brother, Eugene R. Carpenter and his wife Bertha. She is survived by her daughter Mary Linda Butchofsky Endlich (Edward A.), grandchildren Lyn Peticolas (Cody Ritchey), Jaime Butchofsky Endlich (Trade), great-grandson Graham Wyatt Ritchey, her sister, Mary Carpenter Green (John M., “Jack”), brother-in-law Dr. Robert L. “Bob” Butchofsky (Marcia), sisters-in-law, Jackie Brock and Billene Butchofsky, granddaughter in her heart, Maria Guadalupe (Lupe) Gonzalez and her family, many beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, other extended family members and good friends.
Raised in Yselta, Texas, Lucille attended Incarnate Word and Yselta grade schools, and Yselta High School, where she was Salutatorian of her graduating class. It was from her teachers in high school that she learned to love to read, a habit that she maintained until one week before her death. She was very proud of the work she did during World War II, serving as secretary to the Commanding General at Biggs Field for 3 years. After the war, she went to work for the Chevrolet Division of GMAC in El Paso, where she worked for 8 years. Lucille was an officer of her daughter's grade school PTA and a Girl Scout troop leader as well as a member of many civic groups in El Paso, and she also participated in local, state, and national organizations that related to her husband's work with the El Paso Natural Gas Company and, also, with his WW II service in the Submarine Navy. She was always an avid gardener and traveler. Lucille had been ill off and on for about two years, but the past two months were exceptionally difficult for her. She had the most wonderful caregivers to care for her and her family would like to express their gratitude and love to Adele, Juanita, Ysenia, Lourdes, Candelaria, and Roscio for all they did. She was also fortunate to have a wonderful friend, Pat, her beautician, who would come to the house or hospital to “do” her hair and visit with her. Thank you, Pat. We would also like to thank family members Sally, Lupe and Jackie so very much for the help they gave and the love they shared with Lucille whenever she was ill and, especially, during the last days of her life. And to Lyn, Jaime, and Trade, love and thanks always for being so good to your Grandma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Lucille C. Butchofsky to the El Paso Zoological Society, 4001 East Paisano, El Paso, TX 79905.
