OBITUARY: The Abilene Reporter - News, Abilene, Texas, Thursday, 3 February 1972, Remmel Riley Cowan,
Funeral for Remmel R. Cowan, 75, a retired oilfield equipment saleman who died in Big Springs Wednesday morning will at 2 p.m. Friday in Elliotts's Chapel of Memories. Officiating will be Dr. Joe Temple, pastor of the Bible Center, with burial to follow in Hawley Cemetery. Born August 23, 1896, at Huntsville, Arkansas, he attented school in Oklahoma and married Ola Virginia Tolbert in Fort Smith, Arkansas, November 9, 1919. They moved to Abilene from Houston in 1951, and retired in 1961. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post 195 of Jay Oklahoma, and Barracks No. 375 in Tulsa. Survivors are his wife; two sisters, Mrs. W.H. Wilkes of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Jewell Lindley of Jay, Oklahoma; a brother, T. G. Cowan of Tulsa. A son Lt. Remmel R. Cowan, Jr., preceded him in death in 1942. Pallbearers will be members of American Legion.

Ola Virginia Cowan, 84, of 3128 S. 12th St., died at 4:35 p.m. Monday at Anson General Hospital after a brief illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott - Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Keith Justice of Hawley Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be at Hawley Cemetery. Born October 21, 1898, in Wiley, Arkansas, she moved to Abilene in 1951. Her husband, Remmel R. Cowan, died 2 Feb. 1972. Their only son, Remmel R. Cowan, Jr., was lost and presumed dead in the early years of World War II. Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
