Note* __ ___ ____ John Woolman and Polly (Mary) his wife emigrated from New Jersey anout 1810 and first settled on the farm now owned by Isaac Hyatt. He owned several hundred acres of land; was a surveyor and dealt largely in real estate. He also made the first improvement on the farm where Franklin McKay now lives.

Note: __ ___ ____ John Woolman, III (1772-1847) was of English parentage. He was born in Burlington County, NJ on May 4, 1772. John, his wife Mary Burden, along with children Elizabeth, Mary, and Margaret Anne, resettled from NJ to Lumberton, Clinton Co, Ohio. in 1809, where he purchased 1,800 acres of land. He settled upon this land and lived there until 1815, when he moved to Clarke Co, Oh. Here he purchased 1,000 acres of land. In Greene Co, Oh., the Green Plane Quaker meeting house stands, or did stand, upon his tract. A large and valuable spring was upon the land. He sold this land and moved to Cass Co, Michigan in 1830, locating on the shore of Indian Lake. He owned this land when he died in March 1847. It remained in the family until at least 1912.

Stacy Garwood claims John Woolman contrived and maliciously intending, wrongfully and unjustly to hurt, prejudice and injure said Stacy in his good name, fame, credit and reputation and to bring him into publich[sic] scandal, ignoming, and disgrace and to cause him to be esteemed and reputed among his neighbors and other good and worthy citizens of this state, to be a man guilty of false swearing and perjury as well as a theif and felon. On 10 April 1827 at Wilmington in the presence of others the said John then and there falsely and Maliciously in a loud voice said "You (Stacy) have sworn false and I (John) can prove it and you have been sued for stealing a hog an you (Stacy) are guilty of perjury and false swearing, and a thief and felon.
15 Oct 1827- Judges rule cause to be discontinued at cost of plantiff and John Woolman to recover costs $3.80 1/2 from Stacy Garwood.

July term 1828- panel of men to settle amount of rent and taxes, damages, of land owned by Woolman against improvements made by Garwood tenant. To Woolman $33.42.

pg 161- John W vs John Rudduck and Job Hains for payment of debts $320- award plantiff.
pg 178- April 1829- Walter Dun vs John and Eber Woolman, Mahlon Haworth, John Rudduck, Stacy Garwood- debt $1700 (Dun executor of John Graham dec'd) Defendants failed to appear- amount awarded plantiff.
