Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill

MILITARY: Samuel was a private with the East TN Volunteers in the War of 1812. He served as a mounted gunman on expeditions in 1814 against hostile Creek Indians. His pay was $8.00 a month plus 40 cents a day for his horse.
Information from Cindy Stamps to T.Mason on 1 Oct 2007. "In 1830 Samuel Cowan who married Sarah Keith is in McNairy Co. TN. He died sometime before 1840. He is there with Jas Keith and Eli Keith, brothers of Sarah Keith Cowan. Eli also moved to Titus Co. TX. Also in 1836, Eli, William, Jas, & Riley Cowan were to do road work. "

They moved to Alabama before 1820 and were in Mississippi by the mid 1820's. In 1827 they received a land grant for 136 acres in McNairy County, TN, near where the battle of Shiloh would be fought in 1862.
"Biographical Memoranda" of Clime Montgomery HUNT of Harrison, AR, recorded circa 1912 by the Arkansas History Commission.
On 26 July 1861 he enlisted at Camp Shaver in Company I, 7th Arkansas Infantry, Confederate Army. He fought in the Arkansas Battles of Helena and Prairie Grove.
Info from HUNT family Bible, in possession of Dora (HUNT) WAGNER (dec'd) in the 1970's.
In 1906 in Boone Co., AR, he applied for a Confederate pension based on service in Company A, 6th Arkansas Infantry.
She died the day after giving birth to twins.
