OBITUARY-DEATH: Notice, Lamar (Missouri) Democrat, Page 1, Friday, 05 May 1950. Included tombstone photo. From cited obit: "Wes Thomas Died Thursday Morning - Failed to Regain Consciousness from Stroke - Suffered Week Ago - Lived all his Life in Barton County - Leaves Wife with One son and One daughter - Funeral at Milford Sunday Afternoon. Joseph Wesley (Wes) Thomas, eight two, died at his home on East 103 street at 4:45 a.m., Thursday. The aged man was stricken with a heavy cerebral hemorrhage just a week before to his death. He lay in a coma from that time on.
Although born in Adair County, the deceased spent his entire life in Barton County in the vicinity of Milford, coming with his parents, William Thomas and Sarah Faubion Thomas, from northern Missouri, as an infant.
He was married in November 1887 to Anna Melissa Alexandeer, sister of our townsman, Ed Alexander, at Milford. He leaves her widowed with on son, Roy Thomas of Golden City, and one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Rose of Liberal.
Wes, as everyone knew him, was a retiring man, who tended to his own affairs, never meddling in those of his neighbors, although he was kindly and ever ready to offer assistance where needed. He was, as a consequence, trusted, respected and loved by those who knew him well. During his active years he farmed successfully at Milford, at one time operating a general merchandise store in the village.
The body was taken to the Chiles funeral home to be prepared for burial. The last rites were set for 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Milford Christian church with interment to follow in Howell cemetery."
From Nellie (Thomas) Rose: "Pa led singing at church."

Annie Melissa Alexander

OBITUARY-RESEARCHER: Research by Rejeana Zinn Griffin [zinngrif@yahoo.com] and information given to T.Mason on 29 Aug 2001. Notice, Lamar (Missouri) Democrat, 10 December 1958. "Mrs. Wes Thomas Dead - Born and Spent Greater Part - Of Life at Milford - Husband Died Eight Age - Aged Woman Live To Welcome - Eight Great Great Grandchildren - Funeral Friday Afternoon - At Milford Christian Church.
Mrs. Annie M. Thomas, ninety, widow of the late Wes Thomas, died at the nursing home of Mrs. Roy Bird at 1700 Maple Street at 10:00 p.m., Wednesday. The aged woman merely faded gently away, weakened somewhat by a recent cold.
The ninety year old woman was born at Milford. She was the eldest of the eight children of the late Charles and Ruth Alexander, prominent and widely known residents of Milford township.
At the age of twenty six she was united in marriage to J.W. (Wes) Thomas. The couple engaged in farming on a farm near Milford, whre they remained until 1946, when retiring, they moved in to Lamar.
During their active years they played a prominent part in community and church affairs and were widely esteemed by their neighbors.
Mr. Thomas died eight years ago. The widow remained on in the home for a time but as she became enfeebled by the weight of years she was cared for in local nursing homes.
She leaves one son, R.O. Thomas of Golden City and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Rose of Liberal. A second daughter, Mrs. Van Day preceeded her parents in death.
In addition to the son and daughter, she leaves on brother, Ira Alexander of Lamar, two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Hubbard and Mrs. Jessie Thomas of Milford, twelve grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Phillips Funeral Home at Golden City to be prepared for burial. The last rites were set for 3:00 p.m. Friday at the Christian church at Milford, of which the deceased was a devoted member the greater part of her life. Interment follows in Howell cemetery near Milford.
It is worthy of note that the funeral service will take place in the same church and interment in the same cemetery on the same day as the similar service for her old neighbor and friend, the late Ed Faubion. The service for the aged woman follow the Faubion services by and hour and a half.

Charles Marion Alexander

Information sent to T.Mason by Nancy Benson on 3 Sep 2007. "Charles' family moved to Platt county, Missouri when he was young.  Charles was a school teacher by profession. Ruth Broadhurst was his student when they first met (probably in Pea Ridge, AR).  He moved his family to Milford, Missouri in 1880. He taught school until 1896, after which time he became a farmer. A pillar of the Christian Church, Charles was a constant attendant. He died of pneumonia."

Ruth Mariah Broadhurst

Information sent to T.Mason by Nancy Benson on 3 Sep 2007. "Elmer Thomas (Ruth's grandson) thought that Ruth Broadhurst was somehow related to Wyatt Earp.  Elmer says that back in the 1940's, Elmer was         visiting a sick relative in the hospital and talked to Biven Earp who had also come to visit.  Biven was a second cousin to Wyatt. He told Elmer Thomas that they were "a little related".  Elmer seemed to think that it was Ruth's family that had the connection to the Earps.  This has not been confirmed."
