Maria Debora Chisholm

RESEARCHER: Information provided to T.Mason on 19Feb2003 by Daniel Mahar. "Family history has always claimed that Deborah Chisholm, the daughter of John D. Chisholm of Knoxville and later of the Western Band of the Cherokee married William Massengill the son of Hal Massengill.  I have now discovered that John's first wife and mother of his children was Patty Massengill.  Patty was awarded a divorce from Chisholm in 1799 in Tennessee and in 1800 married William Brent in Knox County. ... .

Additional information on the Deborah is found in the records of the Spanish Diocese of Baton Rouge, which govern this area and where most marriages (Catholic and Protestant) were recorded.

MARIA DEBORA CHISHOLM (Juan and Elisabeth MASSENGILL) m.27 Apr. 1804 at Natchez, Henrico MASSENGILL of Tennessee (Henrico and Maria COBE of Tenessee) wit: Guillatxne Brand; Williane Cobe (SJOBR-82 ,22)"

By Patty's death in 1819, Deborah is listed in probate as Deborah wife of William Massengill of Tennessee.
