According to the Fairfield County Chapter of OGS History of Lancaster, Ohio. The new town was called New Lancaster at the request of Emanuel Carpenter who came from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as did many of the predominately German early settlers.

In 1835 the family moved to Shelbyville, Shelby County, Illinois. However, Catherine and her older sister Maria both remained in Ohio as they married so they lived the rest of there lives in Ohio.
Susan Hess and Isreal Carpenter moved to Goshen, Indiana leaving Catherine with her husband in Ohio.
