1501 Became a knight in the Order of Bath
Sir Rhys espoused the cause of Henry of Lancaster (to whom he was related) and according to some authorities did more than any other person to place Henry VII on the throne of England. He became a favorite of the king and honors were heaped upon him. He became a member of the King's Council and Commissioner of the king's mine.
He refused to participate in the internecine conflicts of the House of York and the House of Lancaster. He crossed over to France and joined the court of the Duke of Burgundy.
