CORRECTION: Copy in possession of T.Mason of a letter from William White Hance of Eatontown, N.J. on February 11, 1903 to Mrs. Clayton. EXTRACT: "I am convinced that Mrs. Weld's mistake in our line arises from confusing John Hances of entirely different generations... .
As Joyce Borden Hance died in 1722, it would be absolutely impossible for the John Hance born in 1762 (forty years after her death) to have ben her son. And it is equally impossible for the Ann Borden who was born in 1778 to have been the daughter of that James who is given by Mrs. Weld as the father-in-law of John Hance on page 99, for that James died 41 years prior to the time when Ann his daughter was born.
John Hance who married Ann Borden did not descend from John and Joyce (Borden) Hance at all, but from Isaac and Rachel (White) Hance, which couple had three sons named respectively Timothy, John and Jacob. Jacob was my ancestor, while the John who married Nancy Borden was the son of John & Catherine (Waples) Hance... ."NOTE: The cemetery records and obituary from George Hance the son of John and Ann, which was created at a time and place nearer the event, indicate that the last paragraph written above is in error. John is the son of John & Catherine (Waples) Hance.
